Lil Wayne was born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. on September 27, 1982. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in a poor neighborhood called HolyGrove in New Orleans. He started rapping at age eight. He meet the two founders of Cash Money Records later in life and starting recording at the age of eleven years old. He was the youngest member of the group Hot Boyz. In 1999, Wayne started a solo career and released the record Tha Block is Hot. The record was a huge success and paved his way to being a mainstream success. In 2004, he released Tha Carter , which contributed greatly to his position in the industry. He also released several mixtapes that were free to the public. In 2008, he released Tha Carter III, that sold more than 1 million copies in the first week. This album won a Grammy for best rap album.

Recently, he has been making progress with his label Young Money. This is the house of Drake and Nicki Minaj. In 2009, he released a Rock album titled Rebirth. He also released his eighth studio album I Am Not a Human Being in 2009. Lil Wayne has made two more albums since 2009. In the meantime, he has been helping the artist under his label and underprivileged kids. His foundation, One Family Foundation, helps rebuild athletic fields and centers for children.
